It is covered by private health insurance 2 years after it is taken or started if it is medically necessary and a lot of other private insurances are starting to cover it. However if we get you in and get you examined here at the vascular center Aurangabad, almost all procedures we do are covered by insurance and are deemed medically necessary.

WHAT DOES VENASEAL DO?

The most recent medical innovation in the treatment of varicose veins (which is a common cause of leg pain) is the use of medicinal glue known as Venaseal (cyanoacrylate glue) to physically close and seal the main diseased vein. VenaSeal adhesive (GLUE) is a safe medical glue approved by FDA and it  is used to shut the short and great Saphenous Vein in the calf and thigh. Superficial veins which are the cause of leg pain and also cause leg swelling. In some patients these diseased veins cause skin blackening or itching around the ankle which is very irritating. After injection of glue, the vein will be gradually shrunken and absorbed by our body. The procedure involves the placement of a very small amount of VenaSeal medicinal glue into the vein through a small catheter placed near your ankle. Once the affected vein is closed, blood is immediately re-routed through other healthy deep veins in the leg which is normal course for impure blood flow otherwise. Unlike other treatments, VenaSeal does not require a spinal anesthesia or perivenous tumescent anesthesia. There are no pre-procedure drugs involved and patients can return to their normal activities immediately after the treatment. Unlike heat-based procedures such as Endovenous Laser or Radiofrequency Ablation, with VenaSeal there is no risk of skin burns or nerve damage that can be a reason for pain in 1 % of patients. Venaseal does not require any immediate post-treatment pain medication or compression stockings advised after LASER treatment..

Before and During the Procedure

• You may feel some minor pain or stinging with a needle stick to numb the site where the doctor will access your vein.
• Doctor will insert the catheter into your leg up to groin for GSV and posterior aspect of knee joint for SSV.
• The catheter will be placed in specific areas along the diseased vein to deliver needed medicinal adhesive glue.
• You may feel the mild sensation of pulling or tugging during the procedure which is completely normal.
• Ultrasound will be used during the procedure to guide and position the catheter to the exact needed place within the superficial diseased varicose vein.
• After treatment, the catheter is removed and a bandage placed over the skin to stop oozing of blood if any occurs.
• There is no specific dietary advice after the procedure though we ask our patients to stick to healthy diet as far as possible
• Patients can walk around or do daily routine activities from the very next day.
• We ask not to do vigorous physical exercise , running or gym for 15 days for the vein to heal.
